West End Live is an event celebrating London theatre. Thousands of people visit Trafalgar Square for this annual event. Watch the video of my visit below
Now in its 13th year West End live is well known in London and super popular. The event has grown to become one of Europe’s largest free performing arts festivals. The event is organised by Westminster City Council and the Society of London Theatre, with support from the Mayor of London.
Trafalgar Square filled to capacity
A huge stage installed in Trafalgar Square hosts the event. And entrance is free so arrive early to avoid long queues. The weekend of performances showcase some of London’s best theatre performances. Each show participating performs a short number to give you a taste of their show. So you can watch back to back theatre for hours.
West End Live
The weekend showcased more than 116 different songs over 58 performances. Spanning musicals, cabaret, opera and dance. And also featured over 800 performers. The performances this year also included a host of new productions. Making their West End LIVE debuts Disney’s Aladdin, Dreamgirls, Annie, The Wind In The Willows and Bat Out Of Hell.
West End Live is free to attended. Once Trafalgar Square fills up the event is one in one out so queues can be long later in the day. If you see a show you like London’s discount ticket booth is just around the corner. TKTS in Leicester Square works as a central booking system for many of London’s theatres. If a show is popular tickets will be regular prices. However should a show be under subscribed TKTS will sell the tickets at a discount. TKTS unlike other ticket sellers represents the theatres own organisation. So its simple aim is to ensure as many seats are filled here in town as possible.
