Today I visit and share the best of London August events. August is the last real full month of Summer here in London. So there are plenty of outdoor events and festivals. Also many family events are held during the school summer holidays. And during the last bank holiday weekend of the year London hosts the biggest carnival in Europe. Watch my video of August highlights below –
London August Weather
August is Summertime here in London. However the weather is as unpredictable as ever. Some days it is summer and some days you get all the seasons in random order in the same day. The key is to wear layers, hope for a warm sunny day but be prepared for cold and rain at any moment.
London August Events
Festival season is in full swing during August. There are many festivals throughout the UK. And London also hosts festivals in the many parks and open spaces in town.
The Southbank centre on the bank of the river Thames has a popular summer festival. Featuring art, performance and many family things to do including a beach and interactive fountain water feature.
Somerset House holds outdoor cinema events in its courtyard. The Football season gets under way this month. Also on nice days every park, pub Garden and roof top terrace and bar will be a popular destination. And finally at the end of August the biggest carnival in Europe takes place in Notting Hill.
London August Bank Holiday
The last weekend of august is a bank holiday here in the U.K. So many businesses close on the Monday giving people the day off and a long weekend. Many businesses will open but with limited hours. So if planning a visit somewhere check the opening hours to avoid disappointment.
Notting Hill Carnival
The Notting Hill carnival is a huge event here in London. Held over the August bank holiday weekend each year. The carnival is a fitting grand finally and really marks the end of summer in London each year.
