Southbank Centre Market London
I head to a popular street food market here in London – The Southbank centre market London. I piece together a pre theatre meal, a multiple coarse tasting menu and drinks from the various stalls and traders. The Market is held behind the Royal Festival Hall and Southbank centre next to the river Thames.
The Southbank Centre Market London being so central is very convenient and just a short walk across the river Thames from London’s theatre district. A great way to get to the Southbank centre is to cross the river using the pedestrian bridges by Embankment tube station. From the Bridges are amazing views along the river of London’s skyline.
Perfect English pre dinner drink
The first thing I try is some proper Somerset cider which is a perfect English pre dinner drink. I then try some amazing looking Spanish tapas from The Donostia social club tapas bar. Goats cheese, rocket salad, strawberry and also balsamic vinegar on a slice of bread was delicious.
Next I tried some Bread Tree Bruschetta. Tomatoes and green pesto with olive oil on warm toasted bread. The soft fresh tomatoes combined with the crunch of the toasted bread and touch of basil from the pesto is also a winning combination.
The competition at the Southbank Centre Market London for the best looking and smelling dish is fierce. So just deciding what to go for is a tough decision. Today I went for Sambal Shiok modern Malaysian food as a main coarse. So I tried the Beef Rendang which comes in a choice of bun or on rice or salad. All served with fresh cucumber, sweet pickled red onion and Sambal Shiok’s signature sambal chilli sauce for an extra chilli kick. Melt in the mouth beef and the awesome blend of spices was delicious.
Galeta cakes for a chocolate tiffin was all you could hope for in a chocolate street food desert. Bean about town coffee is also always a good start or finish to any visit to the Southbank Centre Market London.
Finally a cocktail from world of zing bar, a barrel aged Negroni. Then as the market is also so close to the river its a great spot to watch people strolling along the Southbank and the boats go by on the River Thames.
