As a Youtuber the most frequently asked questions I receive are about the weather in London. My viewers and follows are from around the world and often planning a trip to the UK.
So questions range from the direct to the obscure. Do you know what will the weather be like on this date? What should I pack? What should I wear? Is it a good time to visit etc.
Brits are obsessed with the weather
All Brits will be aware I don’t know what the weather will be like. Not just in a week or month but in the next hour or two. But visitors find not knowing hard to understand. They think I’m being funny or evasive or dismissive when I say I don’t know.
Weather is a constant topic of conversation, Brits are obsessed with it. And its not that the weather is ever good it’s just constantly changing.
On any given day you can get all four seasons and in no particular order. Its rarely extremely cold in Winter nor sweltering hot in summer.
Even on days when you wake up to clear and bright sunny sky’s cloud and rain are a probability.
What should I Wear
The ever changing outlook for rain or sunshine manifests itself visibly in what people wear. Britain has produced some of the best fashion designers and brands in the world. But the British sense of style and fashion is not renowned in Europe. Quite the opposite.
The British sense of fashion in Europe is considered eccentric at best. What do you wear when it will be hot, sunny and rain? Or cold and wet but warm later?
Every outing is either a gamble on the weather remaining the same which is unlikely. Or you wear layers that you can remove, a coat or jacket being one of them. On sunny days you take an umbrella just in case. And in the rain you don’t wear rubber boots and wet weather gear because it will most likely stop before you get beyond the front door.
Here is a link to the professionals but to be honest you may as well just look out the window:
