London Christmas Markets
Two popular London Christmas Markets are on the Southbank of The Thames. One is right next to the Southbank centre. Also another is in front of the Tate modern art gallery. They are both a “must do” during the festive season.
The Southbank Winter Festival
Traditional wooden chalets line the Thames by the Southbank centre. Filled with festive treats to eat and drink. And decorations and gifts so you can do a spot of Christmas shopping. Also a street food market serving festive versions of modern street food market hits.
Next to the market is the Rekordelig Cider Lodge. A slice of Scandinavian style, the Rekordelig Cider Lodge is a two story bar that resembles a quintessential Scandinavian house. Inside you can find delicious food and drink waiting to warm you up. So you can Sip winter drinks and eat Scandinavian street food beside the open log fires.
Traditional Christmas Market at Tate Modern
Christmas markets return to this fantastic location in front of the Tate modern. Opposite St Pauls cathedral and very close to the City of London so the views of London’s skyline are spectacular. The millennium bridge connects the markets to St Pauls therefore you can easily visit both.
Beautiful authentically decorated wooden chalets selling a range of unique hand-crafted gifts. Making the market a fabulous destination for unusual Christmas presents. Also featuring a wonderful Victorian Carousel ride creating a magical winter atmosphere.
Christmas decorations and lights
Sip a warming “Glühwein” Mulled Wine from one of the bars. And enjoy a delicious German Bratwurst from one of the grills. The smell of roasting chestnuts is so festive. Snow globes, Christmas decorations and lights, sweet stalls, gingerbread hearts and so many other delicious treats are all for sale.
As well as shopping, the carousel within the Christmas Market and traditional Christmas music will fill visitors with Christmas spirit. Also you can find a Christmas Grotto to meet Santa and give him an opportunity to ask you what you wish for this Christmas.
Getting to the London Christmas Markets
Getting to the London Christmas Markets could not be simpler. The closest station to the Southbank is Embankment and then just a short walk across the Thames via foot bridge. Tate markets are easily reached from Blackfriars south exit. The two markets are approximately a 15 minute walk apart along the Thames so its a nice Winter walk (see video above).
