Hard Rock Cafe London
Today I visited The Hard Rock Cafe London for one of their legendary burgers and to visit the vault. The Hard Rock Cafe London was the first in the world and has some phenomenal rock and pop memorabilia on the walls and in its vault. Check out my visit here –
Hard Rock Cafe History
Today The hard rock cafe is one of the worlds most famous and iconic brands. It all started here in London when two young American chaps opened the first Hard Rock Cafe on June 14th 1971. And you can still visit the very first one today.
Originally the idea was to open an American inspired diner. Classic American food and a dining room decorated with Americana such as flags and licence plates. The restaurant was originally a Rolls Royce car showroom on Old Park Lane. The building’s owners thought it was such a silly idea the initial lease was for only six months.
The Hard Rock cafe was a hit. It was popular with celebrities and celebrity spotters in the early years. In 1979 regular Eric Clapton asked to secure his favourite spot at the bar. One of the owners suggested they hang his guitar on the wall which they did. Then Pete Townshend not to be outdone sent his favourite guitar to secure his spot at the Hard Rock Cafe.
The rest is history, the donations of memorabilia kept on coming. Today the walls have become lined with amazing rock and roll memorabilia. Much of the memorabilia has been donated and some purchased often at great expense. Today there are over 80000 pieces in the collection. So some of the most valuable and coolest pieces Hard Rock keep in a bank vault.
The Hard Rock Cafe Vault
Tucked away in an old Coutts Bank Vault that also happens to be below the Rock Shop. The building was formerly a branch of the Bank to Her Majesty the Queen, Coutts. The bank vaults are the perfect place to store some of the most precious memorabilia. Hard Rock Cafe London welcome customers to visit the Hard Rock vault. And there is an expert guide who will take you on a tour of the memorabilia and its stories.
Pieces in the Hard Rock vault include Jimi Hendrix Gibson Flying V guitar and also John Lennon’s Shirt, glasses and lyrics. The Stereophonics and also the Red Hot chilli peppers guitars. Elvis Presley’s coat, Jeff Beck and Jimmy page’s guitars. A David Bowie guitar and also Eric Clapton’s suit. Madonnas outfit from her blonde ambition tour designed by Jean Paul Gaultier and also her credit card.
Hard Rock Cafe Menu
The Hard Rock cafe serve classic American comfort food Legendary burgers, wings ribs and also so much more. Fabulous cocktails and also delicious desserts. There are also specials to celebrate world events. On my latest visit it is National Chilli day so specials included chilli wings and burger, chilli martini cocktails and a chilli cake.
Hard Rock Cafe Shop
The rock shop is as popular a destination with visitors as the cafe. The Hard Rock cafe sponsored a local football team in the early years. The left over T-Shirts both given to regular customers and sold in the cafe. They became the rock and roll uniform for a generation and also collectable. Also today the merchandise is so popular it has its own store opposite the restaurant.
So finally The Hard Rock Cafe London is open 7 days a week from 11.30am until late. Check out their web site for details – www.hardrock.com/cafes/london/
