The Christmas lights switch on
The festive season officially started in Covent Garden. On Tuesday 13th November 2018. The Christmas lights switch on extravaganza event returned. And it always draws a huge crowd.
Singing sensation Paloma Faith hit the stage tonight. Also Paloma was joined by royal wedding favourites The Kingdom Choir. Also stars of the Royal Shakespeare Company’s Matilda The Musical did a number from the show.
The annual ‘switch on’ of the Christmas lights draws ahuge crowd. This year in support of Crisis, the charity behind ending homelessness for good.
London’s biggest hand-picked Christmas tree
The switch on moment lit up Covent Garden and delighted the crowd. Featuring London’s biggest hand-picked Christmas tree. Standing at 55ft tall in the Piazza and weighing 1.5 tonnes. The Christmas tree is glittering with 30,000 lights. The lights also illuminated the glitter covered bow on the corner of James Street.
The iconic mistletoe and glitter balls in the Market Building are also back. Also the giant reindeer returns. Also joined by the brand new ‘infinity chamber’ light installation in Conduit Court, off Floral Street.
So amble around the cobbled streets of Covent Garden Christmas. The piazza and streets are transformed into a winter wonderland. The perfect spot for shopping over the festive period. So marvel at the mistletoe chandeliers. Also watch London’s best street performances.
Covent Garden is the spot to enjoy something to eat and drink. Restaurants and bars line the Piazza. So enjoy a drink next to the magnificent reindeer statue. Also the huge Christmas tree is the perfect back drop for festive photos.
Also now window shop alongside the 100,000 twinkling Covent Garden Christmas lights. So the 19th-century Piazza looks phenomenal at this time of year.
