Covent Garden Christmas
Covent Garden Christmas 2016 looks to be spectacular as always. This Year Covent Garden’s famous Market Building is kicking of Christmas in style. Adorned with 45 mistletoe chandeliers. Each mistletoe ranging from 2.5 to 3.5m in size. Also with 700 glistening berries as ‘Meet Me Under the Mistletoe’ returns to Covent Garden this Christmas.
London’s biggest hand-picked Christmas tree
This world famous Piazza is again home to London’s biggest hand-picked Christmas tree. A tree all the way from Solihull. And always the most festive spot for a selfie this Christmas.
This year’s Christmas switch on event was more spectacular than ever before. Artists from the Royal Ballet and Royal Opera Chorus also transformed the Piazza into an open-air spectacle of festive song and ballet.
The Sugar Plum Fairy
The Sugar Plum Fairy herself, danced by Mayara Magri, pressed the button to switch on Covent Garden’s famous Christmas tree. So illuminating the Market Building and surrounding streets.
The evening’s performances comprised a selection of operatic favourites. Including Carmen Novera, Il Trovatore and Christmas carols sung by the acclaimed Royal Opera Chorus.
The Royal Ballet
Also dancers from The Royal Ballet and The Royal Ballet School performed in the Piazza. Excerpts from the yuletide ballet, The Nutcracker, including some magical moments from the ballet such as the celebrated Grand Pas De Deux of the Sugar Plum Fairy and her Prince.
So if that’s not magical enough, families can now meet Santa in an interactive festive grotto. Also an augmented reality treasure hunt to catch eight of Santa’s reindeer hidden around Covent Garden. A phone app allows visitors to hunt for the reindeer. Also including the largest digital reindeer ever, which will soar around the famous Piazza on your phone.

Also Elsewhere, shoppers will be able to unlock exclusive offers from the digitally enhanced Christmas tree. Which will be decorated with ‘offers’ that can only be unlocked through the Blippar phone app.
