Chinese New Year
The Chinese new year, also known as the Spring Festival, is calculate by the lunisolar Chinese calendar, so the date changes from year to year. This year it is the 8th February 2016 The main festivities in London will take place in Central London on 14th February. But I headed to London’s China town to see how they are preparing for the big day itself.
I visit Baozi Inn for some steamed pork buns. So I tried two types of pork bun or Bao and both were delicious. I especially liked the small folded ones filled with shredded pork and also some fresh greens.
Also I wanted to try some of the amazing Bubble tea or Pearl milk tea available in China Town. So I went to Happy Lemon Tea store. Happy Lemon have an amazing selection of bubble teas. I tried Milk tea with Oreo & Tiramisu Salted Cheese which was as interesting as it was amazing.
Also Chinese New Year is characterised by one of the 12 animals from the Chinese zodiac. So this year is year of the Monkey.
Each year on the weekend following Chinese New Year London hosts the largest New Year celebrations outside of Asia. So this year the main public event and celebrations will be held on the 14th February in China Town and the west end.
Asian Inspired Food
If you plan to visit the event also don’t forget to wear something red. Even a scarf, gloves, shoes or socks will do. So this will bring good luck for the coming year. And London’s China town is a great place to find some amazing Asian inspired food. Also keeping you warm on a cold winter visit to London.
